For busy people, one of the big obstacles to delegating is knowing what to delegate. For many of us, this is not a no-brainer–it takes careful planning.
- Is it necessary for me to perform this task personally? Or, do I wish this was already done for me?
- What is the worst thing that could happen if I did not personally perform this task?
- What skills does another person need to complete this task? And is there such a person already available to me?
The purpose of this exercise is to start thinking like a delegator, and to get out of the “I’ll just do it myself” habit.
This week, visualize managing the work, not performing it, to increase your scope as a leader.
